“Time to go back to school”

I have some very exciting news to share: I got a job!  Starting in a few weeks, I’m going to be working as a media specialist (school librarian).  The position only goes until the end of the school year, but it puts me in a very good place to get a permanent position in the next school year.  I’m so excited, and a bit nervous too!  I’m not sure yet how it will affect my blogging.  I plan to continue posting at the same rate, but I probably won’t be able to comment on other blogs as often as I have in the past.  I’m going to be diligent in setting aside some specific time to devote solely to blogging, so hopefully I can stay on track.  Also, I’m planning on buying a lap top, which will help me stay on top of things.

It was spring break at the college that I work at this week, so I got up the courage to take pictures in a semi-public place, this neat H2O sculpture (see how they look like atoms? or whatever the proper term is) by the science buildings.  I got a few strange looks from professors, and one guy on a golf cart asked me what I was doing.  I just said that I was working on a project, which is the easiest answer to give when on a college campus, and we got into a friendly discussion about cameras.  It felt so empowering to take pictures where people could actually see me, as opposed to my usually habit of finding deserted and empty areas.

These are my new Gap curvy jeans, and I am in love.  I altered the leg to make them into straight-legged jeans following my tutorial.  I’m planning on nipping in the waist a bit too, just so they can fit without a belt.  They’re so soft, and the dark premium denim wash is gorgeous.  A word of warning though – the dye on washes like this will rub off on things like light colored purses.  Usually it’s easy to clean off.

Do you feel awkward taking pictures of yourself where others can see you?

  1. CONGRATULATIONS!!! That’s so fantastic about the job! I’m sure you will do great and that spot will be yours for next year too.

You look great today! That’s a fun location to do pictures. I’ve never taken pics where others can see me. Well, besides my family or a neighbor that might be peeking out the window. I don’t have a tripod either though so I don’t try new locations.

Oh my gosh, CONGRATS on the job!!! I hope you celebrate accordingly. And I love today’s pictures! Yesterday I took my pictures near a very busy dog park, and as each picture clicked off, I could hear the little kids talking about what I was doing. Saying it’s a “project” definitely makes you look less crazy, and it’s not exactly a lie, either!

I also bought a couple of pairs of the Gap jeans when they came out with their redesigned line, and I love them, too! The quality is so much higher than anything I’ve found at Gap in the past, and the fit is great too. I love yours!

Yay! Congratulations, I know you will be awesome.
BTW, I think they are water molecules? Two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen…sorry, science teacher! A very cool place for an outfit pic.

    (1) congrats on the job!
    (2) that purse is the perfect soft pop of color against an otherwise neutral outfit.
    (3) i definitely prefer to take my photos “in secret” — im even embarassed to tell my fiance or our roommate that im taking photos! and i have had the “project” excuse at-the-ready just in case any of my neighbors see me and question what im doing.

Congrats on the job! That age group is great- they get a bad rap but teens are awesome! Preteens too. I am the mom of 17 and 19 years olds and love the teens that hang at my house.

Congratulations, chica! That is fantastic news, and I’m sure you’re breathing much easier now. I’m so excited for you!

These pics are just beaming with confidence and gorgeousness. The touches of red are classic and fun.

Thank you for posting that tutorial on how alter jeans into skinnies. I’m going to try it this weekend on an old pair … I’m very excited to see how they turn out. Shopping for skinny jeans has been a totally negative experience, and if I can turn out a great alternative and feel proud about it, so much the better.

I don’t really take pictures in public. Every once in a while BF will take a picture of me in public (like the recent one at the zoo) and I feel less dorky because someone else is doing the picture taking. But when I’m all alone, it’s always somewhere private! I even feel weird taking them on my back porch sometimes because if my neighbors on either side just so happen to look out one window of their house, they might catch a peek of me. It’s so unlikely but it still makes me nervous.

Congrats on the job! I know how hard it is to get a job at schools with all the budget shortages.

And yes, I feel like a goof when taking pictures of myself in public 🙂

  17. Congrats on the job! So exciting and wonderful.
This outfit is great — so pulled together, professional and chic.
I’m still not at the point where I can take photos out in public places yet — maybe one day 🙂
